Second phase of the rehabilitation work at the Port of Nacala begins in the second semester of 2017

The second phase of the rehabilitation and expansion of the Port of Nacala, with the main objective to modernize, increase and improve port efficiency in particular for container handling, is expected to start in 2nd semester of 2017

According to Mr. Luis Machado, Head of the Operations Division of the Port of Nacala, the rehabilitation works, with a budget of 300 million US dollars financed by the governments of Mozambique and Japan, should be completed by 2020. These works will increase the number of container yards. At present, the Port of Nacala is capable of handling 180,000 20’ containers per year, but with the completion of the works the port will have the capacity to handle 360,000 containers per year.
