The Economic Attaché of the US Embassy in Mozambique visits Nacala

As part of the contacts being made by the US Embassy to gain knowledge of the economic potential of the country, particularly the Port of Nacala, two representatives from the United States Embassy, Mr. Forest Atkinson assigned to the Economic and Political Section of the Embassy, and Mr. Marino Vasco, visited the Port of Nacala on the 21st of September. Representatives from Portos do Norte, Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique- Norte (CFM) and Corredor de Desenvolvimento do Norte (CDN) were there to meet the two gentlemen.

The main objective of the visit was to become familiar with the economic potential of the Port of Nacala at national and regional levels, as well as in terms of the international market, and also to be able to inform the American business sector of the potential of the port.

Both CFM and Portos do Norte made presentations of their companies before visiting the port. The Port Director, Mrs. Loni Shott, gave information about the company, as well as cargo expectations namely graphite, coke and wood. She also mentioned that the rehabilitation of the port and the arrival of new equipment will double its productivity.

After the meetings and presentations, the representatives of the US Embassy visited the port facility, namely the liquid bulk, general cargo and container terminals.
